The Steel Blue Southern Cross Zip Waterproof in Distressed Brown is a genuinely waterproof, S7-rated steel toe safety boot — built for wet ground, rough conditions and long days on your feet. Unlike a water-resistant boot, this one is properly sealed: waterproof premium cowhide leather, special waterproof sealed seaming, and a waterproof industrial-grade side zip with a clearing outlet to keep water out and feet dry.

It’s a 150mm mid-cut ankle boot that pairs the support of a hiker with the convenience of a quick-access side zip — lace once for the perfect fit, then zip on and off all day. The rugged distressed brown leather gives it a hard-working look, and a protective scuff cap guards the toe in high-wear areas — handy for anyone kneeling, climbing or working in demanding environments.

Underneath is Steel Blue’s Trisole® Comfort Technology — a patented three-density soling system with Ortho Rebound® polyurethane and Poron® energy-absorbing pads that cushion feet, knees, hips and lower back against shift-long fatigue. The TPU outsole is heat resistant to 130°C, slip and oil resistant, and antistatic, with a penetration-resistant midsole guarding against nails and sharps underfoot, and a soft Baltico® lining wicking sweat away.

Sizing & fit

Steel Blue boots are true to size — order the same size as your usual trainer. If you’re a half size, we recommend sizing down (we rarely get these exchanged for being too small). FAQs

What does the S7 rating mean, and how is it different from S3?
S7 is a rating from the newer EN ISO 20345:2022 standard. It includes everything S3 offers — a 200J toe cap, penetration-resistant midsole, antistatic protection and energy-absorbing heel — and adds certified whole-boot waterproofing (water penetration and absorption resistance). In short, S7 is the wet-weather rating: if you need genuinely waterproof safety boots, S7 is what to look for.

Are these boots actually waterproof, or just water-resistant?
Genuinely waterproof. The boot uses waterproof cowhide leather, special sealed waterproof seaming and a waterproof side zip with a clearing outlet — the whole construction is designed to keep water out, which is what earns it the S7 rating. That’s a step beyond the water-resistant uppers on the standard Southern Cross boots.

Does it have a steel or composite toe?
This model has a 200J steel toe cap. If you specifically want a metal-free composite toe, the Southern Cross is also available in composite (Granite and Black Amber), though those are S3 rather than waterproof S7.

Are Steel Blue boots true to size?
Yes. Steel Blue boots fit true to size, so order your normal trainer size. If you’re a half size, size down — we rarely see these returned for being too small. Exchanges are free if the fit isn’t right.

Do Steel Blue boots need breaking in?
Most customers find the Southern Cross comfortable straight out of the box with little to no break-in, thanks to the padded collar and Steel Blue’s Trisole® comfort system. Using the recommended lacing technique helps you get the best fit from day one.

Do you offer next day delivery?
Yes. All Steel Blue boots come with free express next-day delivery via Royal Mail when ordered before 2pm on business days. If you need a guaranteed, confirmed next-day slot, DPD next-day is available for £8.
