Overview
The Steel Blue Argyle Met Bump is a metatarsal safety boot — built to protect the top of the foot, not just the toes. Its defining feature is an internal metatarsal guard that fortifies the metatarsal area, absorbing impact and reducing the likelihood of injury from falling objects — a level of protection standard safety boots simply don’t offer. Paired with a separate bump cap and a 200J steel toe, it’s made for work where heavy materials or dropped loads put the whole front of the foot at risk: foundries, forestry, demolition and heavy industry.
It’s a 150mm derby-style lace-up in water-resistant full-grain leather, and a serious all-round S3 boot beneath the met protection: a penetration-resistant midsole against nails and sharps, anti-static protection, a soft Baltico® moisture-wicking lining, and a generous, comfortable width fitting. The standout is the oil- and acid-resistant nitrile outsole, heat resistant to 300°C — rated Best for abrasion and heat, non-marking and metal-chip resistant — which also makes it a genuine choice for hot and heavy-industry environments.
Don’t need metatarsal protection? See the full Steel Blue safety boot range for standard S3 options.

Who it’s for
The Argyle Met is for trades where the top of the foot is genuinely at risk: foundries and metalwork, forestry, demolition, heavy manufacturing, warehousing with heavy loads, and any job handling heavy materials or equipment. The oil- and acid-resistant 300°C nitrile sole, rated non-marking and metal-chip resistant, also makes it well suited to hot and messy environments — foundries, roofing, asphalt and heavy industry. If you don’t specifically need metatarsal or high-heat protection, a standard S3 boot from the range will be lighter and lower-cost.
Sizing & fit
The Argyle Met has a generous, comfortable width fitting. Steel Blue boots are true to size — order the same size as your usual trainer; if you’re a half size, we recommend sizing down. Available in UK 4–14, including half sizes. If the fit isn’t right, send them back and we’ll exchange them at no extra cost, and every pair comes with Steel Blue’s 30-day 100% comfort guarantee.
How to look after your boots
- Treat them with Steel Blue Dubbin to condition the leather and maintain water resistance.
Why buy from BIG Boots UK?
We’re a small, family-run business (a husband-and-wife team) that has sold Steel Blue boots since 2020, and we were one of the first to sell them online in the UK. Originally from Australia, our knowledge and love of Steel Blue is second to none — our founder Ryan has worn Steel Blue boots for over 15 years. As an authorised UK distributor, every pair is genuine, fully warranted, and backed by people who actually wear the boots.
FAQs
What is a metatarsal (met) guard, and do I need one?
A metatarsal guard is extra protection over the top of the foot — the area between the toe cap and the ankle, where the long metatarsal bones sit. A standard steel toe only protects the toes; a met guard protects the bones behind them from impact and dropped objects. The Argyle Met uses an internal guard to fortify this area. You need one if you regularly handle heavy materials or work where loads could fall onto the top of your foot — foundries, forestry, demolition and heavy industry are common examples.
What does the S3 rating mean?
S3 under EN ISO 20345 means a 200J toe cap, a penetration-resistant midsole, a water-resistant upper, antistatic protection and an energy-absorbing heel. The Argyle Met meets the full S3 specification and adds internal metatarsal protection and a bump cap on top.
Why is the sole rated to 300°C?
The Argyle Met uses an oil- and acid-resistant nitrile rubber outsole, which withstands far higher contact heat than a standard TPU sole (typically rated to 130°C). It’s also non-marking and metal-chip resistant, making it suitable for hot and heavy environments — foundries, roofing, asphalt work and metalwork — alongside its metatarsal protection.
What’s the exact metatarsal certification?
The Argyle Met provides internal metatarsal protection as part of an S3-rated boot, independently certified to EN ISO 20345, ASTM F2413 and AS/NZS 2210.3. For the precise EN ISO 20345 markings on the pair you receive (including the metatarsal ‘M’ classification), check the label inside the boot, or contact us at ryan@bigboots.co.uk and we’ll confirm the exact rating for your workplace before you order.

Do you ship to Europe and Ireland?
Unfortunately not, we do ship to Northern Ireland however due to brexit and the complications with shipping and then duties costs, we find it better for customers to try and find a local supplier as it will save you money on duties.
