Overview
The Hard Yakka Legend is a lightweight, wide-fit S3 safety boot with a metal-free composite toe — a genuinely well-specified boot at a hard-to-beat price. It pairs a composite toe cap with a Wellmax® composite puncture-resistant plate, so the whole boot is non-metallic: lighter underfoot, and it won’t trigger metal detectors at airports or secure sites. Add a water-resistant full-grain leather upper, a 300°C heat-resistant outsole and a generous wide fit, and you have a serious all-day work boot that punches well above its price.
The 10-gauge YKK coil side zip means easy on and off — lace once for fit, then zip through the day — and a lightweight memory foam and PU footbed keeps it comfortable across long shifts. The lining is made from REPREVE® recycled fibre (spun from recycled plastic bottles), so it’s a slightly greener choice too. An abrasion-resistant scuff cap protects the toe from the daily knock-about that wears cheaper boots out early.
Now certified to the current EN ISO 20345:2022 standard with a full S3L A WRU SR HRO FO rating, it’s approved for use on sites right across the UK.

Who it’s for
The Legend suits anyone who wants full S3 protection, a wide comfortable fit and a metal-free build without paying a premium: construction, warehousing, groundwork and general trade. The composite toe and composite puncture plate make it a strong pick for airport and secure-site staff, electricians and anyone who passes through metal detectors, while the wide fit makes it one of the more comfortable options if you have a broader foot. The 300°C outsole also suits hotter working environments.
Sizing & fit
The Legend is a wide fit, so it suits broader feet well — if you have a standard or narrow foot, you may prefer to size as normal and expect a roomier fit. Available in UK 6–14, including a 10.5 half size. If the fit isn’t right, we offer free exchanges.
Why buy from BIG Boots UK?
We’re a small, family-run business that specialises in Australian work boots — we know the brands inside out and only stock boots we’d wear on our own feet. Originally from Australia ourselves, we’re proud to bring Hard Yakka’s hard-wearing, value-driven boots to UK tradespeople. Every pair is genuine, fully warranted, and backed by people who actually use them.
FAQs
Is the Hard Yakka Legend fully metal-free?
Yes. It has a composite toe cap and a Wellmax® composite puncture-resistant plate — no metal in the protective components. That makes it lighter than a steel-toe, steel-midsole boot, and means it won’t set off metal detectors at airports or secure sites.
What does the S3L rating mean, and is it different from S3?
S3L is the S3 rating under the newer EN ISO 20345:2022 standard. It gives you everything S3 offers — a protective toe cap, puncture-resistant midsole, water-resistant upper, antistatic protection and energy-absorbing heel. The full marking here is S3L A WRU SR HRO FO, which also confirms slip resistance, a heat-resistant outsole (to 300°C) and fuel/oil resistance. In short, it’s approved for standard UK site work.
Does it really have a wide fit?
Yes — the Legend is built on a wide last, so it’s a genuine option if you’ve struggled to find comfortable work boots for a broader foot. If your foot is average or narrow, expect a roomier fit.
Why is the outsole rated to 300°C?
The Legend’s outsole carries an HRO (heat-resistant outsole) rating, tested for brief contact with hot surfaces up to 300°C. That makes it suitable for hotter environments as well as general site work. Note this is contact-heat resistance for the sole, not a rating for the whole boot.

Do you ship to Europe and Ireland?
Unfortunately not, we do ship to Northern Ireland however due to brexit and the complications with shipping and then duties costs, we find it better for customers to try and find a local supplier as it will save you money on duties.
Northern Ireland customers do not have to pay duties as you’re part of the United Kingdom and postage is the same as the mainland.
