Overview
The Mongrel K9 in Vintage Brown is a non-safety, Chelsea-cut elastic-sided dealer boot in premium full-grain leather, with a rich, characterful vintage finish — the hottest-selling dealer boot range in Australia, and now a firm favourite here. To be clear, this is a non-safety boot: there’s no steel toe cap and no safety rating, so it’s built for comfort and style rather than PPE-regulated sites. What you get instead is a genuinely comfortable, great-looking leather pull-on boot — and a light one, at just 420g for a size 9.
This is the K9-1, the round-toe version — born from Mongrel’s work-boot DNA but built as a lightweight, casual off-site boot. Not just for work, it suits work life, office life, city life, farm life — and everything in between. The elastic-sided design pulls on and off with no laces, and the premium leather and unusually broad choice of colours (rarely seen in the dealer-boot market) mean there’s a K9 for every look.
A proud addition to our range of Australian boot brands: Mongrel is a multi-generational family business crafting footwear in Australia since the 1930s. We’ve visited the Mongrel factory in Sydney ourselves and seen first-hand the quality and care that go into every pair.
Also available in Brown, Black and Cloudy Grey. Need a steel toe? See our Mongrel safety boot range.

Who it’s for
The K9 suits anyone who wants a comfortable, good-looking leather dealer boot for everyday wear — on the farm, around town, in the office or out and about. Because it’s non-safety, it’s ideal where you don’t need a protective toe cap. If your workplace requires steel-toe safety footwear, choose one of our Mongrel or Steel Blue safety boots instead.
Sizing & fit
The K9 comes up large, so we recommend ordering a half or full size down — for example, if you wear a size 10 trainer, order a 9 or 9.5 for a good fit. It’s a unisex fit available in UK 3–14, with half sizes from 6 to 10. If the fit isn’t right, we offer free exchanges.
Why buy from BIG Boots UK?
We’re a small, family-run business that lives and breathes Australian work boots. Originally from Australia ourselves, we know these brands inside out and only stock boots we’d wear on our own feet — we’ve even visited the Mongrel factory in person. Every pair is genuine and backed by people who actually wear them.
FAQs
Is the Mongrel K9 a safety boot?
No. The K9 is a non-safety dealer boot — it does not have a steel toe cap or an EN ISO 20345 safety rating. It’s designed for comfort and everyday wear. If you need a protective toe cap for your workplace, choose a rated safety boot such as the Mongrel 561, 461 or 545030.
Is this the round-toe or chisel-toe K9?
This is the K9-1, the round-toe version — a lightweight, casual Chelsea boot for off-site comfort. Mongrel also makes a K9-2 with a sharper chisel toe, but the boot on this page is the round-toe K9-1.
What is a dealer boot?
A dealer boot (also called a Chelsea work boot) is a pull-on, elastic-sided boot with no laces and no zip. Stretchy gussets on each side let you pull it on and off easily while keeping it secure on the foot — comfortable, quick and clean-looking.
How heavy is the K9?
It’s a light boot — a size 9 weighs just 420g. That makes it comfortable for all-day wear whether you’re on the tools, on your feet around town, or on the farm.
Do the K9 boots fit true to size?
The K9 comes up large, so we recommend sizing down by a half or full size. For example, a size 10 trainer wearer should order a 9 or 9.5. It’s a unisex fit with a ladies fit available, and we offer free exchanges if the size isn’t right.
How do I look after the leather?
Treat it with a quality leather wax such as Mongrel Boot Wax to protect against moisture and keep the full-grain leather conditioned — especially worthwhile on the vintage finish.
How long have you been selling Mongrel and Australian work boots?
We’ve specialised in Australian work boots for years and are the exclusive UK importer for Mongrel Boots, as well as stockists of Munka and Steel Blue. Originally from Australia ourselves, we’ve even visited the Mongrel factory in Sydney — we only recommend boots we’d wear on our own feet.

Do you ship to Europe and Ireland?
Unfortunately not, we do ship to Northern Ireland however due to brexit and the complications with shipping and then duties costs, we find it better for customers to try and find a local supplier as it will save you money on duties.
Northern Ireland customers do not have to pay duties as you’re part of the United Kingdom and postage is the same as the mainland.
